‘Every day is a good day’
You’ll often see the scroll 日々是好日 - ‘Every day is a good day’ displayed in a Japanese Tea room. It comes from the Zen Buddhist idea that our choices can help make it a good day. Meaningful actions, like placing a flower in a vase, or holding a handmade bowl, or taking a moment to enjoy some favourite art, help transform the day.
My ceramics are made for those small, life-enhancing moments. They’re made for you to touch, to hold, and to delight in.
Inspired by Japan; crafted in Canberra.
All my work has richly textured surfaces that awaken our sense of touch. The natural colours highlight the effect of flame on clay and glaze. The shapes come from my lifelong study of Chadô (Japanese Tea) and connections to Asia.
